Bradley Grobler gives United rare win
SuperSport United tasted their first victory in 11 matches with their 1-0 win over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivandila.
Bradley Grobler returned to scoring form to fire SuperSport United to a 1-0 win over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on Wednesday evening.
The DStv Premiership match was held at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
TTM, who were currently crowned the Nedbank Cup champions, came into the match with high confidence but looked nothing like the side who defeated Chippa United in the final last week.
The result leaves them in 15th spot on the league standings, level on points with Chippa United and in the midst of a relegation battle.
United on the other hand, tasted their first victory in 11 matches.
The first chance of the match fell at Jamie Webber’s feet in the fifth minute. Jesse Donn teed up his midfield partner who looked sure to score but Washington Arubi pulled off a good save to deny the hosts an early opener.
Arubi was at it again four minutes before the break, this time to keep out Grobler who got on the end of a corner-kick to test the TTM shot-stopper.
Grobler finally got his goal in the 52nd minute of the match to take his tally up to 14 goals for the season and strengthen his grip on the golden boot award.
Guily Manziba found the Matsatsantsa forward at the back post and he made no mistake, nodding home from close range.
Vhadau Vha Damani threatened to find an equalizer late on through Nedbank Cup final hero Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, but his fierce shot from range in the 80th minute was well saved by Ronwen Williams.
In the end, SuperSport held on for all three points in what is a welcome return to winning ways for the Tshwane club.
United’s next match is against arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
The two Pretoria clubs battle it out in two weeks’ time at the Loftus Versfeld.
Although United are out of the title race, they still have a good chance to finish in the top three which will guarantee them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
