More spike traps on roads in Pretoria

“On the R104 a lintel/concrete slab was placed over the entire lane to damage vehicle tyres.”

On Thursday night four spike-trap cases were reported in various areas throughout Pretoria, according to security company GAC Risk Solutions.

“There were at least four vehicles spiked on various routes last night,” GAC Risk Solutions said in a statement Friday morning.

The first spike-trap incident was reported just after 20:00, and the last shortly after midnight, on roads on the N1, N4 and R104.

“On the R104 a lintel/concrete slab was placed over the entire lane to damage vehicle tyres,” said GAC Risk Solutions.

“Thanks to every person of various companies and SAPS for responding to assist the victims.”

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said on Friday morning that he was not immediately aware of the spiking incidents.

North police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi said police and TMPD were still continuing with patrols on roads established as “hotspot” areas.

“People must, however, continue to report these cases at their nearest police stations so that we may establish where else patrols are needed most,” he said.

Cullinan CPF spokesperson Karen Yssel had previously said that spike-trap robbers “moved around” and were operating in different areas each time.

“This makes it difficult to catch the suspects as they don’t linger in the same place for long. People must be careful on all roads, especially at night.”
