Newly formed foundation cares for children with special needs

Masks and hand sanitiser to keep the children from Tshegofatsong special school safe during the lockdown.

A newly-formed organisation donated masks and hand sanitisers to keep children at Tshegofatsong special school safe.

The donation was made by Mbalienhle Mndawe Child Foundation on Friday, at the school premises.

Foundation founder Mbali Modau (23) said she decided to donate the personal protective equipment (PPE) to the school which was close to her heart.

Tshegofatsong specialises in severe mental disability education.

Modau said she joined forces with Gideonguard, Master Drive and Insatiable Foundation to donate the masks and sanitiser, five pairs of school shoes, food and bread to the school.

She said these supplies would help keep the children at the school safe and help with following the Covid-19 rules and regulations.

They also donated washable masks, disposable masks, bleach and hand soap.

Friday was also the official launch of the foundation.

Modau said she planned to make it an annual event whereby every year, they’ll do something for the community organisation, especially those dealing with children.

She pleaded with business people in Mamelodi to come on board and help the foundation.

Deputy principal of the school Yvonne Phaahla said the donations came at a time when desperately needed.

Tshegofatsong special school children encouraged to wash their hands every day.

“Our children come from different backgrounds and some families can’t afford to buy PPE.

“The donation will help our children to continue staying safe at all times at school and at home,” said Phaahla, adding that children were told to wash their hands each time they touched something..

Gideonguard provided entertainment for the children.

Modau said she was planning to spend a day with children to help young stars in different sporting codes as well as assist the community with social issues they may be dealing with.

She said that on the 10th of July when she turns 24, she would celebrate her special day with children at Malerato orphanage in Mamelodi East.

“I don’t want to organise a birthday party and invite friends to come and celebrate with me, while there are children out there who never had the privilege to celebrate their birthdays.”

Miss United Nationals finalists Wandile Ngwuane also attended the official launch and donated masks to the school.
