1 670 new Covid cases this week in Tshwane

“The trends are quite clear now as active Covid-19 cases are speedily increasing, thus signalling the start of the third wave,” says Tshwane mayor.

The Tshwane region recorded 1 670 new Covid-19 cases between 11 May and 17 May, according to the latest numbers from the Department of Health.

This saw active cases in the region standing at 2 102 in the city.

Pretoria’s overall Covid-19 positive cases thus climbed to 114 588, with 109 387 recoveries and 3 099 deaths thus far.

Tshwane metro mayor Randall Williams raised concerns over this increase in cases, describing it as “signalling the start of Covid-19 third wave”.

“This is yet another sharp week-on-week increase from the 1 260 active cases reported last week on Monday, 10 May,” he said.
