Two women robbed in security complex
Robbers followed the woman in a car from a mall and managed to slip in behind her when she drove into a friends security complex.
Two women were robbed when robbers followed one of them into a complex in Waterkloof on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Webster Scheepers said the incident took place at 11:45 on High Street.
Scheepers said one woman, a 66-year-old, was driving from the Brooklyn mall when she noticed a suspicious vehicle.
“The woman noticed the vehicle had been following her for a while, so she called a friend at a security complex explaining her situation,” Scheepers said.
“She asked the friend to open the gate for her.”
As she entered the complex, the car with the robbers slipped in behind her, parking in the middle of the entrance to manipulate the sensor and prevent the gate from closing.
Scheepers said one-armed man emerged from the car while the others stayed put.
The friend who had come out to check whether the woman was fine was then robbed at gunpoint.
“The suspect demanded her ring,” Scheepers said.
“After that he smashed the car window of the 66-year-old woman’s car, grabbing her handbag with valuable belongings inside.”
It included a cellphone and a purse.
The men then fled the scene.
Scheepers said no shots were fired nor were there any injuries reported.
“Police are investigating an armed robbery and no arrests have been made.”
