Wollies celebrating 8th birthday
Wollies animal shelter will be celebrating its birthday with a spring cleaning day and invites all animal lovers to join in.

Wollies will be celebrating its eighth year of being a beacon of hope for homeless and abused animals.
The animal shelter in the north of Pretoria will host their big birthday bash on Saturday, May 29.
“We’ll be hosting a spring cleaning day for all our kennels and cattery, from top to bottom,” said Wollies founder Cilla Trexler.
“You can book your kennel and spoil the pooches and the cats with a new looking kennel after cleaning and sprucing it up a bit.”

Trexler called on all animal lovers and Wollies supporters to assist the shelter on this day.
“Bring along brushes, spades, shovels, etc., to help make the shelter spick and span.”
Wollies animal shelter has taken care of thousands of animals over the years.

It all began with Wollies Animal Project in 2013, when this non-profit organisation started promoting sterilisation projects at affordable prices to assist the abandoned and less fortunate animals.
“The most important things for us is: sterilisation and re-homing. Giving that one doggy or cat a second chance in life,” Trexler then said.
“Our motto has always been to educate and help prevent unwanted litters. In doing so we are saving thousands of lives and helping to prevent neglect, abuse and abandonment of animals. The project is on-going and every week our dedicated volunteers transport animals to our vet to be sterilised.”
The Wollies animal shelter was then established. Spacious kennels were built and in May 2014, the shelter celebrated its first birthday.
The aim of the Wollies animal shelter is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, unwanted and neglected animals.

The shelter had on its first birthday around 160 dogs and 80 cats awaiting loving and caring “forever homes”.
Seven years later, and the shelter has over 700 dogs and 700 cats in its care.
Being a pro-life organisation, Wollies is entirely dependent on their communities to adopt the many animals in their care.

Feeding all these animals was also a daily challenge, and Trexler asked for the continued support of communities and individuals donating pet food to the shelter.
“We wouldn’t have been able to do what we do without your help,” Trexler thanked Wollies supporters.
