Two arrested after Sammy Marks cellphone store robbery
Police were called to the scene and managed to retrieve 77 cellphones with a total value of R135 764.
Two men were arrested after robbing a PEP cellphone store at Sammy Marks Square on Wednesday afternoon.
Three suspects stormed into the store and demanded the staff hand over cellphones at gunpoint said Pretoria Central police spokesperson Constable Thabang Nkhumise.
“While they were busy packing the stock, an employee from another shop saw the robbery in progress and told the security officers. The security officers proceeded to the scene. When the suspects saw them coming, they tried to run away but two of them were caught only a few meters away,” Nkhumise said.
One suspect armed with a firearm, however, managed to escape.
“Police were called to the scene and managed to retrieve 77 cellphones with a total value of R135 764,” Nkhumise said.
He said that the two suspects were detained at Pretoria Central police station and would appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court.
The third suspect is still being traced.
Pretoria Central station commander Brigadier Moses Dladla welcomed the arrest and commended the security officers for their bravery.
