Blankets and kitty food needed this winter

Wollies animal shelter needs help keeping furry friends warm and fed this season.

Wollies animal shelter in the north of Pretoria has called on animal lovers to donate cat food and blankets to keep their sheltered animals warm and fed this winter.

Founder of Wollies, Cilla Trexler, said thanks to events and generous donations, plenty of dog food have been delivered at the shelter.

“But unfortunately we don’t have cat food and I’ve had to buy food for the cats myself,” Trexler said.

Wollies is a non-profit organisation and is entirely dependent on donations from its community.

The shelter’s main aim is to rescue and rehome abandoned or abused pets.

Though the shelter has shared many success stories of homeless animals being adopted, they received a lot more animals that needed shelter almost daily.

Wollies is a pro-life organisation which means that none of the animals are put down unless life-threatening illnesses or injuries require it.

Trexler said the latest number of animals in their care was over 700 dogs and 700 cats.

The shelter also housed donkeys and other animals.

Trexler said during winter lots of blankets will be needed.

“It is only the start of winter, but it’s already very cold. We need all the blankets, even old carpets people can spare to keep our fur babies warm.”

Wollies will be celebrating its eighth birthday on Saturday and invited all animal lovers to help clean the kennels at the shelter.
