Metro cops bust five over stolen items
“The vehicle was searched and different kinds of clothing from different shops were found in the vehicle."
Members of the Tshwane metro police department (TMPD) recently arrested five people on a charge of possession of suspected property at a shopping centre in the east of Pretoria.
TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the suspects were arrested on Thursday.
“Our K9 unit members were patrolling the Hatfield area when they noticed a tactical security vehicle driving towards Hatfield Plaza. They followed it and enquired about what was happening. They were informed that there were five males who were busy with suspicious activity in a Toyota Corolla,” he said.
The officers and security personnel then observed the situation.
“While they were busy with their observations, they noticed two of the suspects coming out of Hatfield Plaza walking towards the Toyota Corolla,” he said.
Mahamba said the officers approached and the suspects started to walk away when they noticed the officers.
“They were stopped and taken back to the vehicle,” he said.
The suspects were reportedly found to have been stealing clothes from various shops and hiding them in the vehicle.
“The vehicle was searched and different kinds of clothing from different shops were found,” he said, adding that some clothing items were found still tucked inside the pants of one of the suspects during a search.
“The security company assisted the officers to look for the other suspects inside Hatfield Plaza and all identified suspects were found and arrested for possession of suspected stolen property,” Mahamba said.
While commending his officers and security personnel for the job well done, he reiterated that they [the TMPD] would continue to combat crime in the city.
