Soshanguve girls stay safe by playing netball
Sosha Netball girls got a pleasant win over a netball team of young, talented girls from Soshanguve extension 14.
A group of Soshanguve girls took part in a netball match at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on Saturday.
Sosha Netball Girls netted 45 points while Extension 14 Girls could only manage seven points.
Sosha Netball Girls captain and event organiser Pearl Shongwe (21) said that the victory was what they needed from the game.
Shongwe said that victory felt great and it also showed improvement among her team members.
“A huge win such as this one feels overwhelming and great at the same time, because the past weeks have been difficult for us as students,” said Shongwe.
“The workload was so much that we had no time to practice but the results today showed that netball is a sport that we are good at.”
Nokubonga Mndebele (22) from the Extension 14 team said that the streets of Soshanguve were unsafe, mostly on weekends, so playing netball helps kept the girls away from the streets.
“As a girl, I had to find a way of keeping myself away from the dangerous streets,” said Mndebele.
“Despite our loss today, I am still delighted that this match happened as we also got to gain experience by playing with the TUT students and I hope that next time we will do better.”
