Dog found after Kameeldrift attack

Renske Miesner’s dachshund went missing from her parents’ smallholding in Kameeldrift-West after a house robbery in which her mum was severely beaten with a stick.

Cody, the dog that went missing from a smallholding in Kameeldrift-West after a house robbery, returned to its owner early on Friday morning.

Owner Renske Miesner shared the happy news on social media after the dog returned to her parents’ home around 03:00.

Miesner previously spoke to Rekord about the attack on her parents at their house on Sunday, 30 May.

Emmerentia Botha (57) and her husband Hannes (80) were surprised by two robbers at their house around 18:30.

Emmerentia was forced to fight back against one suspected robber who assaulted her with a stick, while her husband went to get his firearm to defend them.

“I think the trauma of the attack has not completely sunk in with my parents, especially my mother,” Miesner told Rekord.

The couple visited friends late Sunday afternoon and then, around 18:00, returned home.

When the couple arrived at the house and opened their door, Miesner’s dachshund Cody ran out to a window where the two robbers apparently, shortly before the couple’s arrival, had gained access to the house.

Meisner said she suspected the two perpetrators were just there to break in and were then disrupted by her parents’ return.

Emmerentia, still unaware that something was wrong, was first in the house where she met one of the robbers.

“He grabbed my mother by her clothes in front of her chest and pressed her against the wall by the fridge,” Meisner said.

“He had a stick, which he may have picked up outside the house.”

Meisner said the man assaulted her mother so brutally that the stick broke.

“She then realised that she would have to fight back and shrugged the man off, pushing him back to the wall on the other side of the kitchen.

“She then fell on her knee, the very leg where she had a knee replacement a while ago.”

At that point, Hannes also ran into the house and went straight to the safe to get his firearm.

Emmerentia’s attacker then stopped the assault and fled the house.

“Fortunately, the other robber, who had a firearm, was outside.”

The two robbers tried to flee with the couple’s bakkie.

The tracking system of the bakkie was activated and police were able to catch the suspects.

Meisner said her mother was, “fortunately not too badly injured in the attack”.

“She was recently taken to hospital for x-rays on her injured knee. Fortunately, there were no fractures on the prosthetic knee.”

The Kameeldrift-West CPF told Rekord the suspects in the bakkie were chased all the way to Laudium where they were caught.

Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango could not confirm the case of house robbery at the time of going to press.

Spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said both cases of house robbery and possession of stolen property would have to be linked for a stronger case against the perpetrators.
