Several city centre streets to be affected by march

The marchers were expected to gather along Kgosi Mampuru Street from mid-morning.

Several streets in the city centre were expected to be affected by a march by the Economic Freedom Fighters’s labour desk on Monday.

Tshwane metro police department (TMPD) spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the march was over salaries which had allegedly been paid to 7 000 “ghost employees” by the Tshwane metro.

“The marchers will gather from 10:00 at the corner of Kgosi Mampuru and Madiba streets and move to Tshwane House,” he said.

From Kgosi Mampuru Street, the marchers were expected to join Madiba Street and proceed straight until they reached the metro’s headquarters.

Intersections expected to be affected during the demonstrative action included Sophie de Bruyn, Bosman, Paul Kruger and Lilian Ngoyi streets.

“The marchers are expected to disperse from Tshwane House at 12:30,” Mahamba said.

He said alternative routes that could be used were Pretorius, Francis Baard, Nana Sita and Visagie streets.

TMPD officers were expected to be deployed to monitor the march and affected streets.
