High possibility of load-shedding for the week

Stage 1 load-shedding was expected to be implemented from 17:00.

The likelihood of load-shedding being implemented throughout the remainder of the week was high, power utility Eskom said on Monday.

Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said this was due to the power system remaining constrained and vulnerable.

“These capacity constraints will continue for the foreseeable future,” he said.

“All South Africans are urged to reduce their use of electricity, particularly between 17:00 and 22:00, when the winter demand is the highest.”

This after the power utility announced it would implement stage 1 load-shedding between 17:00 and 22:00.

Mantshantsha said this was due to the loss of two generation units at Kusile power stations and one unit each at the Kendal and Tutuka power stations.

“Breakdowns currently total 15 570MW of capacity, while planned maintenance is 1 273MW of capacity.

Meanwhile, Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the load-shedding would only affect three groups in the city:
