Two killed in north accident

Another patient was trapped in the wreck with minimal signs of life.

Two people were killed in an accident in Gezina, North of Pretoria, on Friday night.

The crash, involving one car, happened around 23:20 on the corners of Steve Biko and Nico Smith streets, said Medi Edge spokesperson Michael Gough.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found one car stuck on a traffic pole with three occupants inside, two of whom had already succumbed to their injuries,” he said.

“Another patient was found trapped in the wreck with minimal signs of life and advanced life support treatment was immediately initiated.”

Gough said local fire and rescue services used hydraulic rescue equipment (Jaws of Life) to extricate the patient from the wreck.

“Due to the extent of the injuries, HALO Aviation emergency medical helicopter was activated to transport the patient to a specialised facility.”The exact cause of the accident is still unclear and will form part of a police investigation.
