Man killed as bakkie crashes into barrier, wall in west

"On arrival, we found one male patient trapped in the bakkie with critical injuries," said Best Care spokesperson Xander Loubser.

A man was killed after a bakkie collided with a barrier and then a wall on Es’kia Mphahlele Drive and Van der Hoff Road, respectively, in the west of Pretoria.

The accident happened on Saturday night around 23:00.

While the exact circumstances were unclear, paramedics said it appeared the bakkie hit a barrier on Es’kia Mphahlele Drive before hitting a wall on Van der Hoff Road.

“On arrival, we found one male patient trapped in the bakkie with critical injuries,” said Best Care spokesperson Xander Loubser.

“Due to the state of the wreckage, medics had to break the back window of the vehicle to gain access to the patient and treat him,” he said.

“Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead. We send our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.”

Loubser pleaded with motorists to adhere to all traffic regulations.

“There were five serious accidents we attended on Friday and Saturday alone, in the west of Pretoria.”

Yesterday, two people suffered critical injuries when a truck struck a barrier on Es’kia Mphahlele Drive before landing on its side on Van der Hoff Road.
