Bride diagnosed with cancer will finally fulfil her greatest dream

The doctors only gave her a few months to live and when Otto heard the news, he went down on one knee.

Centurion Hospice hosted a wedding for a 36-year-old Pretoria woman who has been diagnosed with a rare stomach carcinoma recently.

Larami Meyer wore a traditional veil over her blond wig as since she started with chemotherapy, her hair started falling out.

She walked down the aisle in a white-and-purple wedding dress on one of Jak de Prieter’s songs, “Lara”.

The song tells the story of two children who fall in love, and after years of separation they end up together.

Larami and Otto Meyer (38) share a similar love story.

They met as teenagers when they both attended Kwaggasrand Special School in Pretoria West.

During her grade 10 year, she relocated and the only contact they had, was stolen minutes on a paid-telephone and long letters.

“Otto gave me my first kiss, and I suppose I will receive my last kiss from him as well,” she said.

The teenage lovers eventually lost contact.

Around two years ago, they found each other on social media.

Larami was still healthy and their love just blossomed.

Shortly after, the pair moved in together and all of a sudden Larami got sick.

After 18 operations, she was, unfortunately, diagnosed with rare stomach carcinoma in December last year.

The doctors only gave her a few months to live and when Otto heard the news, he went down on one knee and proposed to her.

“She is even prettier than the first day I met her.

“I will stay with her for the rest of her life. And when she passes, I want to know that I have done everything I could to make her happy,” an emotional Otto said.

Just before Larami said ‘yes’, Otto whispered: “I love you, hair or no hair. I will walk this difficult road with you. I love you.”

Larami, who previously worked as a paramedic and kindergarten teacher, came across Centurion hospice when she wanted information about the in-patient unit (IPU).

In a short period of time, the non-profit organisation managed to pull in sponsors from all over Pretoria for Larami to get her dream wedding.

The couple originally did not plan a honeymoon as she had to start with chemotherapy sessions two days after the wedding.

Her greatest dream was to stand on Table Mountain, looking at the horizon.

However, with lots of love and support from the community, they now can fulfil her dream for a fully paid trip to Cape Town.

They are set to leave for Cape Town on June 25.

“I almost can’t believe it – a lifelong dream will now become a reality.

“I have never been to Cape Town. We are looking forward to walking along the beaches of Blouberg and to stand on top of Table Mountain,” she said.
