Police ask for help in search for missing schoolgirl (13)
Mother says she last saw her daughter that morning taking a taxi to school.
A Mamelodi family has asked the public to help search for their 13-year-old daughter, who went missing almost two weeks ago.
Nolunthando Lindobuhle Mabena from Mamelodi West, Section C3 went missing on June 3.
Mother Bathabile Mabena said she last saw her daughter going to school in the morning.
However, she was surprised to get a call from the Hoërskool Silverton notifying her that her daughter did not go to school on the day.
Nolunthando is a grade 8 learner at the school.
According to the mother, this was the first time her daughter went missing.
She last saw her daughter at around 06:30 taking a taxi to school.
Mabena was wearing a blue school tracksuit with red stripes, with powder blue Nike tekkies.
Bathabile said that she has searched almost everywhere for her daughter and followed leads about her whereabouts but everything drew a blank.
The mother said they won’t rest until she was found.
“We are following up every lead, including searching next to the school community park where she was last seen and also social media to search for her,” said Bathabile.
She said she cannot sleep at night not knowing where her daughter was, “because we don’t know where she is sleeping or what she is eating”.
Bathabile pleaded with her daughter to please come back home.
“Life is not the same without her.”
Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso confirmed they were investigating a missing person’s case opened by Nolunthando’s mother.
“We are working tirelessly night and day searching for the missing girl,” he said.
Mabena family described their daughter as a loving person and respectful and prayed for her safe return.
Maheso said efforts to look for her drew a blank and urged anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the investigating officer Detective Ledwaba on 071 6874963 or the police on 10111.
Mabena’s family can be contacted on 081 594 5106 should anyone know anything about her whereabouts.
