COMPETITION: Beloved sunglasses brand back with nostalgia and for new memories

Countries celebrated National Sunglasses Day, recently and BondiBlu International wants to emphasise the importance of eye care.

With new life now being breathed into an old beloved brand, adults will become nostalgic about their youth, while the younger generation will now be able to enjoy the ever-popular BondiBlu International sunglasses.

Some countries also celebrate National Sunglasses Day, recently and BondiBlu International also wants to emphasise the importance of eye care – even in winter.

“It is no longer just in the summer that we need to look after our eyes. Winter can cause dry, irritated eyes. When you are outside on a cold, windy day, sunglasses can protect your eyes from the effect that the cold air has,” said BondiBlu International’s marketing director, Johan van Greunen.

According to Van Greunen, people forget that the sun still emits ultraviolet radiation that can damage the eye’s cornea, lens and other parts, including the skin of the eyelids.

“Sunglasses are not just a fashion accessory or made for cycling. It’s part of your everyday existence. As you take your cellphone and keys when you go out of your house, your sunglasses must also go with you,” he said.

With more dust particles in the air during the dry winter months, sunglasses protect the eye from unwanted particles in the eye. Eyes need just the right amount of light for good vision and long-term health. Too little light is just as bad as too much.

“BondiBlu International has sunglasses for every occasion – and face shape – and we want to be part of the household and routine,” said Rohan Neethling, CEO of BondiBlu International.

“We want to be there with every moment – in the vehicle on the way to school, on the way to the shops, with you on your bicycle,” said Neethling.

BondiBlu originated in South Africa in 1992 and has just been acquired by a dynamic young team of entrepreneurs who want to continue this legacy through their innovative management style.

Two of the new directors, Marcel and Johna Muller, have been working at BondiBlu for 15 and 20 years respectively, and said they are very excited about the new journey ahead.

“BondiBlu is back with new passion and purpose with a lot of work and research that goes into producing sunglasses with the quality of expensive sunglasses – but introducing them to the market at a competitive price,” the Mullers said.

“Most of those who grew up in the seventies to nineties’ first sunglasses were BondiBlus and everyone will agree – that was the highlight of the December holidays,” they said.

BondiBlu International’s sunglasses range is available in 1 000 outlets in South Africa today. There is a large variety available for adults and children. Find your favorite at Dischem, Sportsmans Warehouse, Arrie Nel Pharmacy, Wildman and many independent stores.
