Eersterust police station shooting murder suspects arrested

Suspects are believed to have been involved in the killing of a man outside the Eersterust police station earlier this month.

Two suspects were arrested on Tuesday in regards to an incident in which a man was killed in front of the Eersterust police station earlier this month.

Cheslyn Koffman (34) was fleeing from his assailants when he was shot and killed in front of the police station on July 11.

One of the suspects was arrested in Villeria, according to police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.

“He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with live ammunition as well as a Toyota Etios that was reportedly hijacked in Eersterust in July this year.”

Both suspects were arrested in the early hours of this morning.

A team of law enforcement officers, led by Garsfontein station commander Colonel Kevin Solomons, raided the suspects’ hideouts.

The team included members of the Gauteng highway patrol, Tshwane K9 unit, Silverton SAPS crime prevention, Villeria SAPS and Kameeldrift SAPS.

The second suspect was arrested in Mamelodi, after police received information about his whereabouts.

Police recovered another unlicensed firearm with live ammunition at the suspect’s hideout.

They also raided an address in Arumlily, Eersterust where they recovered a Ford Figo, which was hijacked in the Silverton policing precent earlier this month.

The recovered firearms had been sent to forensics to check whether they were used in Koffman’s murder or any other crimes.
