People aged 35-49 can now walk in to vaccinate in Tshwane

It was initially stated that the vaccination for this group would commence on 1 August . This was changed by the Gauteng health department urging all centres to start as soon as possible.

The city of Tshwane has added two more Covid-19 vaccination sites to the existing ones as it opened doors to those aged 35-49.

The vaccination of the group commenced on Monday, with the two added sites already taking walk-ins.

It was initially said that the vaccination for this group would commence on August 1. This was changed by the Gauteng department of health urging all centres to start as soon as possible.

“The city of Tshwane has noted the decision by the Gauteng provincial government to immediately commence with the vaccination of people 35 years and older, including walk-ins not registered on the EVDS system,” said health MMC Sakkie du Plooy.

Du Plooy said the metro supported all reasonable initiatives that would help reach herd immunity sooner.

To ensure smooth operations at the vaccination sites, Du Plooy said:

– Priority will still be given to those who have registered on the EVDS system and have appointments.

– Walk-ins will have to be patient and will only be vaccinated once those with appointments have been assisted.

– Unacceptable behaviour by impatient walk-ins will not be tolerated.

– People are still encouraged to rather first register on the EVDS system, which will reduce waiting times at vaccination sites.

– Tshwane residents were reminded that there were 31 public vaccination sites spread across the city to provide more choices for residents.

Earlier this week, the city added three more vaccination sites to the existing 26. The latest addition brings the total number of vaccination sites from 29 to 31.
