Tshwane regional league champs closer to ABC Motsepe League promotion
“Winning the first game against ZK FC will mean we are through to the ABC Motsepe league,” says head coach Themba Moabelo.
Mamelodi Newcastle United have a good opportunity to advance to the ABC Motsepe league division after they had a fair start in the delayed Safa Gauteng Men’s Regional League provincial playoffs.
The playoffs, initially scheduled to begin on August 15 at the Vaal University of Technology in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, commenced on August 21 owing to contest implicating the West Rand.
The outcome of the contest favoured ZK FC, which replaced West Rand in the playoffs. As a result, the five teams now competing in the provincial competition are Mamelodi Newcastle United, Sibiya FC, Alexandra Gunners, Real Barcelona and ZK FC.
The local side began their winning campaign on a high note when defeating Sibiya FC 1-0.
Their second match against Alexandra saw them playing to a 0-0 draw and sharing one point each, putting the local side in the second spot of the log standing with a total of four points.
Heading the log table are Rea Barcelona with a total of six points after beating Sibiya FC, and ZK FC 1-0 and 4-0 respectively. The ZK FC with a total of three points, Alexandra Gunners FC with one and Sibiya FC with none are in third, fourth and fifth places respectively.
In relation to the final phase of the playoffs and advancement to the next league, the Tshwane side’s final two matches are likely to be tough, come Saturday.
They will first play ZK FC at 09:00. The ZK FC is anticipated to fight like a wounded tiger after suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Real Barcelona in a previous encounter.
This match will not only be about winning but also fighting for their dignity. Another important aspect is that ZK FC will be looking at replacing the local champions in the second spot of the log standing to be in a better position to advance to a higher league.
Meanwhile, the local champions will be fighting to gain maximum points from their first match to remain among the top two teams to be promoted.

“Winning the first game against ZK FC will mean that we are through to the ABC Motsepe league,” said Mamelodi Newcastle United head coach Themba Moabelo.
United will then play their second game of the day against the log leaders at 15:00.
Real Barcelona have so far proved to be the toughest side in the competition after achieving excellent results in two previous matches.
When showing continuous hunger and dedication to remain log leaders, it will be difficult for the local side to defeat them.
However, the local boys are also a tough team and have their eyes focused on the prize.
In order for the local side to advance to the ABC Motsepe league, it will have to either maintain its current second spot on the log standing or move to the top of the log.
The two teams that will occupy the first and the second spots, by the end of the playoffs, will be promoted to the next league.
