Man arrested with over R600 000 of suspected stolen beer

"The driver failed to give proper documentation proving purchase of the beer."

A man was arrested in Akasia in the north of Pretoria at the weekend after he was found in possession of 30 pallets of allegedly stolen beer he was transporting in a truck.

The Castle Lite beer was estimated to be worth around R600 000, according to Akasia police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mdluli.

The arrest was made during a stop-and-search operation on Saturday.

“The driver of the Freightliner truck failed to give proper documentation proving purchase of the beer,” said Mdluli

Police confiscated the beer.

Station commander Colonel Magugu Ginindza welcomed the arrest.

“It sends a strong message to perpetrators that the police are not ‘sleeping’ but instead working hard at fighting crime in their policing precinct,” said Ginindza.

Over the weekend police nabbed more than 600 suspects in various operations.

The district led by Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu painted the streets of Tshwane blue, and tirelessly effected the arrests.

About 188 arrests were made during the O kae Molao high density operation on Friday in the Soshanguve and Rietgat’s precincts.

Among those arrested, 46 were nabbed for gender-based violence while six foreigners were charged for contravening the immigration act, and the rest were for commission of various crimes, said police spokesman Brigadier Brenda Muridili.

The operation also closed several liquor outlets which were operating without valid licences.
