Women in law enforcement unite

Female police officers and correctional officers got together in celebration of public management week.

Tshwane women in law enforcement came together this past Friday to share their experiences as they commemorated public women management week.

The week was aimed at recognising women in law enforcement who make a mark in what was known as a traditionally male-dominated environment.

The event took place at the Elim Church in Hillcrest with women from the South African Police services as well as the Correctional Services attending the empowering session.

“Policewomen are represented in all divisions, provinces, components, stations and units of the SAPS,” she said.

Sunnyside station commander Brigadier Letta Matshidiso Kgoad encouraged female officers who hold senior positions in the organisation to assist junior female police officers in setting goals for themselves and charting their career and future in the SAPS.

“As mentors, you can guide and provide opportunities for the younger generation to grow and as such ensure a more effective service delivery to the communities they served,” she said.

In her presentation, Ga-Rankuwa station commander Brigadier Junior Lehabe-Metsi highlighted the goals of policing within the Tshwane district and the role that female officers are playing in achieving it.

During the closing remarks, the senior female law-enforcement officials once again committed themselves to take the lead in fighting crime and to ensure that all communities in Tshwane are and feel safe.

Communities were further urged to play their role by reporting any suspicious persons, vehicles or circumstances to the police immediately by phoning the 10111 emergency number.
