Hefty sentence to murder accused
A man who murdered his 31-year-old girlfriend with homemade training weights got 20 years in jail.
A man, accused of murder in April 2019, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following an investigation by Pretoria-Cullinan police.
The police applauded Detective Constable Ronny Ngobeni for securing the arrest and sentence.
Constable Ngobeni started with his investigation immediately after he was allocated the case docket, and arrested Augastinho Matrice (29) who allegedly hit and murdered his 31-year-old girlfriend with homemade training weights.
“The incident occurred at the boyfriend’s employment compound in one of the local lodges in Cullinan after an argument,” said Moganedi.
After Nogbeni “worked tirelessly on the case”, Matrice was arrested on the same day and appeared several times before the court.
His trial started in January and he was found guilty on July 30.
The Pretoria High court sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment on September 10.
“The station management thanked the officers involved in the case.”
She concluded that Ngobeni “set the benchmark standard for murder investigations and that other investigators must do the same in terms of securing convictions in their respective cases”.
The police have encouraged the public to start working with the police in solving cases and were encouraged to report any suspicious-looking persons to the police at 08600 10 111.
