Free panic and anxiety support group launched
The group comes together every first and third Wednesday a month.

A mental health support group aimed at supporting and comforting people living with panic and anxiety was launched by the SA Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag).
“So many people are afraid to talk about their struggles with panic and anxiety because of the fear that people will perceive them in a negative way,” support group leader Melissa Bouwer said.
“I was one of them, but since I started to speak out about it, first to family and friends and then more publicly, I started to hear more and more stories and responses that boiled down to ‘me too’.”
She said the support group will create a comfortable space for people living with panic anxiety to share what they have been through with others who had similar experiences and give each other assurance that it was okay not to be okay at times.
“Levels of stress and uncertainty have risen exponentially and to cope with that as best we can, we need to take care of our mental health,” she said.
Bouwer added that the support groups provided people with safe spaces where they could feel heard and understood.

The group comes together every first and third Wednesday a month.
The meetings are free and will be held virtually via Skype between 19:00 and 20:15.
Those interested can contact Bouwer on 079 698 6141.
