Cyclist suffers cardiac arrest at Hazeldean sport and recreation venue

The cyclist was airlifted to hospital where he was handed over to surgeons.

A cyclist went into cardiac arrest while at the Cowhouse sports and recreation venue in Hazeldean on Saturday morning.

“An adult male cyclist got off his bicycle and went into cardiac arrest,” Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said.

“A bystander performed CPR. The road crews achieved return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and called for the helicopter emergency medical service.”

Herbst said the patient was relatively unstable in flight and was transported to a nearby hospital where he was handed over to surgeons.

In a separate incident a man was killed when a car rolled on Malie Street in Andeon, in the Moot, this morning.
