Local organization get R100 000 cash boost

The supermarket has been supporting Thandanani centre since 2012 through various financial and non-financial means.

A Mamelodi organisation caring for the needy recently received a R100 000 cash boost.

The money was donated by Pretoria Big Save who hosted a charity golf day at Pretoria Country Club on 22 September.

The fund-raising event was for charitable purchases and each organisation that was invited for the day received a sum of R100 000.

Thandanani Drop-In Centre in Mamelodi, Paul Kruger Kinderhuis and The Shuffling Walking team received the donations.

Thandanani’s main focus is drug awareness and cleaning up the Mamelodi community, taking care of the homeless and drug addicts and reuniting them with their families.

Thabo Kgotsi from the centre said there were not enough words to thank Big Save and the suppliers for enabling them to continue bringing change to respective communities. “We will allow our actions to reveal our gratitude. May God bless you all in multiple folds.

“The supermarket has been supporting Thandanani centre since 2012 through various financial and non-financial means,” said Kgotsi.

The funds will assist Thandanani to sustain its programmes, like the one for the homeless people and the daily feeding scheme.

Operations director of Big Save, Tony Ferreira said his company was committed to supporting Thandanani and hoped to see the programme expand to other townships, especially where Big Save supermarkets had a presence.

“Our Big Save Waltloo store is located in Mamelodi and with our focus to provide the best prices and service to the community, so their money goes further, we also want to make sure the culture is kept clean,” said Ferreira.

It is heart-breaking to see people with so much potential to make a success of the lives fall into the trap of drugs and resulting in a downwards spiral,” said Ferreira.

The Drop-In centre was opened by two cousins Thabo Kgotsi (34) and Victor Tswayi (31) of Mamelodi East.
