Early active bodies enjoy zoo walk, run

Participants said they preferred the early morning race when it was still cool since they did not like running in the heat of the day.

Trail Adventure hosted yet another event at the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa on Sunday morning.

Between 20 and 30 early birds arrived just before 06:00 to participate in a 5km or 10km run, walk, or hike.

Participants said they preferred the early morning race when it was still cool since they did not like running in the heat of the day.

Bevan Gouldie, spokesperson, explained that due to Covid regulations they had staggard starts, up until 09:00 and received approximately between 80 and 100 entries.

“My father found the Trail Adventures and we have been around for the past seven years. And host trail runs all over Pretoria.

“We usually have our runs here at the zoo, at golf courses, the Big Red Barn in Irene, Centurion, Rietvallei dam, the Voortrekker monument and Rockfall Ranch.”

Goldie said they have up to five runs per week, and usually on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with up to two runs on a Saturday or a Sunday.

“Residents can look forward to another early morning run at the monument on Sunday, 17 October,” he said.

“Exciting events are also coming up like a night run at the Vootrekker monument on Thursday, 28 October. On Friday, 29 October we have a 12-hour run at the Big Red Barn,” he said.

The next run at the zoo will take place on Saturday, 30 October, Goldie said.

All participants that finished their run, received medals.
