Teacher donates sanitary pads and school uniforms

A Mamelodi school teacher has made a personal donation of school uniforms and sanitary pads to her learners.
Rebecca Moloko, also known as Mam Rebecca from Ramahlale primary school in the far east of Mamelodi, donated 15 jerseys, 14 pairs of school socks and 54 packets of sanitary pads.
The learners who received the donations are brilliant in class but in need of few school items because of their family backgrounds.
She said she felt sad as a teacher to see some of the learners lacking school uniforms.
“You know you can assist the child. The generous donations were made at the school premises, which was one of the coldest days experienced in the last month,” said Moloko.
She said she bought the items with her own money.
“It was heartbreaking to see these children coming to collect jerseys wearing short-sleeved shirts or their own jerseys,” said Moloko.
Moloko’s career in teaching started 35 years ago and her love for school has since grown over the years because she knows that the children have the potential to become or do something with their lives.
“The learners were all smiles after receiving the donations and you could see and feel the joy in their hearts,” she said.
Mam Rebecca has always had a passion to help those in need and has always demonstrated this in her community of Mamelodi East.
“The quality of education that the school gives to the learners can only be achieved if schoolchildren are provided with adequate learning materials, school uniforms and a better learning environment,” she said.
Mam Rebecca said the love to care for children motivated her to plough back to the community.
“The donation to the children was a way of thanking God for giving me the strength, passion and care for the children and giving the children these donations will teach them to give a helping hand to others,” said Mam Rebecca.
