Pop-up vaccination sites now at workplaces
“Now employers and any organisation that want to assist their employees to get the jab can forward their requests directly to the vaccination team to have a pop-up or mobile site set up at their offices.”
Companies larger than 50 people can now ask for vaccine teams to visit their offices to vaccinate their employees right at their workplace.
This initiative, by the Gauteng provincial government, is part of the government’s drive to step up vaccinations before the festive season to beat the predicted fourth wave of Covid-19 infections.
“We have made it easier for workers to get the jab at their place of employment,” said Gauteng health spokesperson Kwara Kekana.
“Now any employers and organisations that want to help their employees get the jab can forward their requests directly to the vaccination team to have a pop-up or mobile site set up at their offices.”
She said the platform would also include health education to provide clarity on any related issues the workers might have.
“It is only through vaccinating the majority of citizens that we can get the economy back on track and restore some normality as we get back to the things we love doing such as attending concerts, sporting matches and religious conferences, among other activities.”
Kekana said companies could forward their requests to popupsite@gauteng.gov.za or call the Gauteng hotline on: 0800 228 827.
When making the request, companies are expected to provide the following information:
– Company name
– Company address (include other branches if the company has other offices in the province)
– Number of employees (breakdown per branch)
– How many eligible employees need to get vaccinated?
– Provide details of key contact person for follow-up purposes
– Indicate if there is a need for our health professionals to do an education session at your company to address vaccine hesitancy.
– Indicate which days will work better for your company
Kekana said the Gauteng government was working with various sectors of society towards vaccinating as many people as possible to beat the fourth wave.
She said to achieve the goal and to get more jabs in the arms of people, the department was targeting areas in the province with low vaccine uptake.
“It is only when 70% or more of the adult population is vaccinated by mid-December that we can minimise the impact of the fourth wave and avoid stricter restrictions.”

Kekana said since October 10, a total of 5 046 757 Covid-19 vaccinations had been administered in the province.
She encouraged all persons 18 years and older to visit their nearest vaccination site to receive the jab.
