"Crime is affecting all of us Ga-Rankuwa and we would like to encourage the residents of Ga-Rankuwa to join the CPF and the police in fighting it because we cannot do it alone."
Ga-Rankuwa police and the Greater Ga-Rankuwa CPF have called on the community to join hands with them to fight crime in the area.
Ga-Rankuwa CPF chairperson Degracia Makume said the township had grown substantially over the past years and they were noticing an increase in the number of growing informal settlements.
“Ga-Rankuwa is growing and we are having a big problem in the informal settlements.”
Makume said they had also seen an increase in gender-based violence being reported by community members.

“Other crimes we were seeing an increase in are car hijackings, murders and in some instances house robberies.”
Makume said as the CPF, they started by identifying the problematic areas and looked for ways in which they can curb the crime in those areas.
“We identify the hotspots and times the crimes usually happen and then we patrol on those times. Ga-Rankuwa has four sectors and we patrol in all the sectors.”
She added that they would like to encourage residents who wanted to join the CPF to consider vetting their fingers to avoid working with criminals.
“Sometimes criminals join the CPF so that they can get information about our activities. So we would like to urge those who want to join us to do it for the right reasons so that we can avoid working with criminals.
“Crime is affecting all of us in Ga-Rankuwa and we would like to encourage the residents of Ga-Rankuwa to join the CPF and the police in fighting it because we cannot do it alone.”
Ga-Rankuwa police spokesperson Shimi Tsheole called on community members to work with the police to fight crime in the area.
“We are calling on them to come forward with tips and ways we can improve the fight against crime in the area. I want to encourage community members to work with us in fighting crime and instead of pointing blame all the time.
“We need to work together.”
