Suspected robber injured in Pretoria east shootout

“Three suspects jumped out of the vehicle while firing shots at the Fidelity tactical unit. One of the suspects was shot by the reaction unit of a shopping mall close by.”

A would-be robber was injured during a shoot-out with private security on Thursday in the east of Pretoria.

In a Facebook post, private security Brinant said there was a high-speed chase in an attempt to recover a stolen vehicle with three men in it when the car crashed into the sidewalk on the corner of Lois and Bali streets bringing it to a standstill.

“Three suspects jumped out of the vehicle while firing shots at the Fidelity tactical unit.

One of the suspects was shot by the reaction unit of a shopping mall close by,” the statement read.
“The other two suspects ran into the direction of Menlyn Retail Park and they were chased by Brinant’s tactical team on foot.

“Both of them were apprehended on the corner of Lois and Aramist avenues.”

A Toyota Urban Cruiser, various vehicle computer boxes, two jamming devices and various vehicle break-in equipment were confiscated.
Brooklyn police spokesperson sergeant Webster Scheepers confirmed the incident, saying three suspects were arrested by the Brooklyn police.

“One suspect is under police custody in the hospital and two suspects are detained at Brooklyn SAPS. It’s alleged that the suspect shot at the security officer and tried to flee from the scene,” Scheepers said.

“At this present moment, it’s undisclosed what was found in possession of the suspects. A full media report will follow once all role players are done on the scene.”
