Traffic cops bust man for 182km/h speeding
“As we continue to observe Transport Month, it is important that road users continue to practice road safety.”
Arresting a man for speeding 182km per hour in a 120km zone and retrieving a stolen bakkie were all in a day’s work for the Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) this week.
In the first incident, a 37-year-old motorist was arrested after he was allegedly caught speeding at 182km/h along the R21.
The man will face charges related to reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of driving in excess of the prescribed speed limit.
“We have been successful in clamping down on speedsters thanks to the latest technological devices such as Moving Violation Recorders (MVR) during our operations,” said GTP spokesperson Sello Maremane.
MVRs record the average speed measured over a minimum of 500m.
It is then recorded and downloaded for investigation and prosecution purposes.
In the second incident, the GTP’s saturation unit recovered a stolen vehicle after it was notified by a tracker company.
The vehicle, a Hyundai H100 bakkie, was traced and two men were subsequently arrested along the N12.
Both suspects, aged 44 and 38, would face charges related to the theft of motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.
