Business robbery suspects injured in police shootout, arrested
"Two of the suspects suffered gun shot wounds."
Temba police arrested four men following a shootout between them and the police in Marikana informal settlement near Eersterust on Friday morning.
Temba police spokesperson Sergeant Herman Moremi said it is alleged that the men committed business robberies in Majaneng, Hans Kanana view and Stinkwater on Friday.
Moremi said while police were on the look out, a patrol vehicle came across a reported Nissan NP300 that had been involved in the robberies.

“They immediately called for backup and gave chase. The suspects’ vehicle collided with a wall and they jumped into a Nissan X Trail they had hijacked in Stinkwater during the robbery.”
Moremi said the men opened fire at the police after realising that the police had cornered them.
“Two of the suspects suffered gun shot wounds, one was shot on the leg and the other one shot on the upper body. The other two suspects threw their firearms on top of a shack before surrendering.
“One firearm was recovered inside the Nissan X Trail. Suspects’ firearms were found with serial numbers filed off.”
Moremi said the two men who were injured during the shootout were taken to the hospital.
“They are under police guard and the other two are still in custody.”

Moremi said the suspects took money in all the businesses they robbed however an undisclosed amount was recovered during the arrest.
“The suspects also took groceries during the robberies in these shops.”
Moremi said police are investigating cases of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms following the incident.

Temba police station commander Brigadier Johannes Tau said business robberies will be reduced in their policing area as he believes that the arrested suspects are the ones who were involved in many other robberies around their area.
Moremi said the suspects will be appearing in court soon.
