East vaccination site reaches 15 000 vaccinations

The NG Moreleta Park church vaccinated its 15 000th person on Monday

With faith-based organisations being urged to take the lead in encouraging people to get vaccinated, one such organisation in the east of Pretoria reached a milestone of vaccinating 15 000 people.

The NG Moreleta Park church vaccinated its 15 000th person on Monday

“The partnership between the Gauteng Department of Health and NG Kerk has shown that fighting coronavirus requires collective efforts from government, faith-based organisations and the private sector,” said the department in a statement.

“This milestone comes at the time the province continues to ramp-up the vaccination programme through ongoing partnerships with the private sector, media, civil organisations and faith-based organisations.”

Petrus Mokhabukhi, the 15 000th person to get vaccinated at the site, said he was honoured to have received his jab at the Moreleta Park NG Church.

“I feel good after vaccinating, I am in good spirits and I would like to encourage others to get vaccinated as well,” he said

Moreleta Park NG Kerk CEO, Pieter Breytenbach expressed his appreciation for the progress made by the Gauteng provincial government and the church with the vaccination programme in Tshwane.

Breytenbach said it has been a privilege to serve members of the community.

“I think if we all held hands and helped each other, this whole programme is going to benefit everybody,” he said.

“I encourage everybody to participate and to help each other in the fight against this virus.

“I would like to thank everybody that was involved here, it was a privilege to serve with you.”

Another person to have received her jab was Kathleen Jacobs, who said her decision to vaccinate was for her family’s safety.

“My husband works everywhere so we are all vaccinated to keep everyone safe,” she said.

“I encourage who can get the vaccine to come and get it. It’s for your safety and for your loved ones’ safety.”
