Police spokesperson Thembi Nowathe said the men were part of a group of men who attacked a shepherd while he was patrolling on the farms in the area on Saturday.

“The shepherd was attacked by not less than nine men. He was doing his hourly rounds on the farm. The attackers forced the shepherd to go and knock on the door of the main house because they wanted the owner.

“The two people who were inside the house, a man and a woman, refused to open the door. The door was kicked down until they managed to barge in,” Nowathe said.

“They tied the couple’s hands and took R500 after searching them. The woman was sitting on her phone the whole time and the criminals did not notice it. This enabled her to call for help.”

Nowathe said in the early hours of Sunday, police conducted a search after they received information about the whereabouts of the stolen goods and the livestock.
