School mourns death of top learner and avid athlete
"Lizay, we will miss you terribly and your place on the school grounds is empty."
A 10-year-old top learner and avid athlete at Laerskool Bakenkop in Centurion, Lizay Roeloffze, passed away due to natural causes on Wednesday, October 20.
Headmaster Willie Fourie said it was with great sadness that they were informed of the death of their grade 4 friend.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the Roeloffze family. May you find comfort and compassion,” he said.
According to Fourie, her passing was probably the saddest day in the history of the school.
“She was one of our top 10 academic learners and an avid athlete.
“Lizay, we will miss you terribly and your place on the school grounds is empty,” he said.
Some of the parents at the school posted messages of sympathy and tributes on Facebook.
Heidi Harford said Lizay was the most beautiful little girl.

Wilma Pretorius said that Lizay was loved by all of those who knew her.
“Rest in peace beautiful little angel. May our Heavenly Father be with her parents and family during this difficult time.”
A mother at the school, Chantel Coetzee added that Lizay’s passing was unexpected.
“It is incredibly sad. There are no words to comfort the parents and I cannot imagine what they are going through. I pray for the family. May the Lord be with the family and hold them tight. Rest in peace most beautiful Lizay,” she said.
