Laerskool Westerlig hosts colour run to tackle financial woes

More than 300 runners, families and local businesses turned out in full force to rally behind a vital school fundraising drive.

More than 300 participants joined Laerskool Westerlig’s 5km Colour Run to help raise vital funds for the school.

October 24 brought together the school community, local businesses, organisations, sponsors and residents for a day of fitness, entertainment and community spirit.

The event kicked off with a 5km colour run, bringing people together to promote fitness, well-being, unity and enjoyment.

Community rallies behind cause

Following the run, attendees took part in soccer, an egg race and a raffle, alongside live performances from J Khumalos and Skraal Super League.

Westerlig principal EM Shongwe said the run was a response to the school’s financial difficulties.

Recognising the need for additional resources to support the school’s needs and create better opportunities for its learners, Shongwe said the school took the initiative to organise a fundraising event to bring the community together for a meaningful cause.

”The Laerskool Westerlig Colour Run has shown that a school does not have to face its challenges alone. With the support of committed sponsors, organisations, staff members and the wider community, meaningful progress is possible.

Shongwe thanked everyone who contributed on behalf of the school. “Every contribution helped bring the vision to life and reinforced the importance of standing together to support education. Together, we can build a stronger school, empower our learners and create a brighter future for the next generation.”
