#NotInMyName donates food parcels to over 2 000 Msongoville residents

"These are communities that are marginalized and communities that are in need."

#NotInMyName delivered aid to over 2 000 residents of Mshongoville informal settlement over two days.

#NotInMyName Secretary-General Themba said they donated food parcels and toiletries last week Thursday and Friday.

Masangio said due to growing requests, #NotInMyName and Shoprite have decided to continue with their partnership in providing poor communities with temporary food relief.

Masango said with many South Africans struggling to overcome the socio-economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and many lockdowns, it has become increasingly crucial for business and civil society organisations to come together and provide much-needed assistance to affected communities.

“This is part of our adjusted social mandate. We are planning on feeding over 100 000 families this year and we are almost at 90 000. We are also going to be running a campaign called Arethusaneng (let’s help each other) because of people coming out of the many levels of lockdowns in this country.

“We are also looking into creating a campaign where people can donate a loaf of bread each day or each month so we can have a food bank and be able to do it continuously.”

He said the communities are appreciative of the food donated to them.

“These are communities that are marginalised and communities in need. They also appreciate it because we are not going to them because of a campaign and we are not doing it for votes. We are doing it because our people really need assistance.

“This time of the month we struggle to get by because we depend on grants, so this food will last us until we are can get our grants.

“We really appreciate what they are doing for us. People have been finding it hard to make ends meet because of the lockdown and jobs are hard to come by.”

Masango said they are going to be continuing with the food donation for the foreseeable future.
