50 Mamelodi pensioners receive fresh harvest to tackle food security

Local non-profit organisations appeal for community solidarity and ongoing donations to keep vulnerable residents nourished and supported.

Fifty senior citizens from Mamelodi East received freshly harvested spinach on Tuesday, October 28.

The donation was made by Love of Christ Kingdom Church through its partnership with Tsalanang NPO and Vhathu Phanda Community Forum.

Tshepo Ramoncha from Tsalanang NPO said the spinach was shared between senior citizens of Ext 6 in Mamelodi East and Merry Me informal settlement.

Ramoncha expressed deep gratitude to the church for sponsoring and supporting their community feeding initiative for elderly people in Mamelodi.

He said the organisations believe caring for the elderly is not simply an act of kindness, but a shared responsibility as members of one community.

Feeding scheme spreads spirit of Ubuntu

“The church reminds us that the spirit of Ubuntu, love and compassion is alive in our communities. Your support has helped bring people together around a shared purpose: caring for our elderly people and restoring hope to those who need it most,” said Ramoncha.

“Our elderly people are the roots of our families and the foundation of our communities, and they deserve to be treated with dignity, love and respect.”

He said the community feeding initiative seeks to remind every elderly person that they are valued, appreciated and never forgotten.

“A meal is more than food on a plate. It represents care, hope, dignity and human connection,” said Ramoncha.

“Your contribution demonstrates that when faith is put into action, communities become stronger and hope becomes a reality,” he added.

He further said Tsalanang NPO believes in the African principle of Ubuntu: “When our elderly people need support, we must stand together. When families face challenges, we must show compassion. When our communities need hope, we must work together to make a difference.”

Feeding scheme needs support

Tsalanang NPO and Vhathu Phanda invite churches, businesses, supermarkets, government departments, farmers, community leaders and caring individuals to join them in strengthening their community feeding programme.

Donations of groceries, vegetables, maize meal, rice, cooking oil and other essential supplies can help the organisations reach more elderly people in need.

Tsalanang NPO and Vhathu Phanda Community Forum said they remain committed to honouring the elderly through meaningful action, compassion and community support.

Ramoncha concluded by appealing to community members to support the Ayibuyele Sgela third annual Book Covering and Back to School Campaign by donating sanitary pads, toiletries, stationery, school shoes and uniforms.

Anyone who wishes to assist with any form of donation can contact Ramoncha on 076 712 7321.
