A 55-year-old man, who stabbed his girlfriend to death at the Riverside informal settlement in the east of Mamelodi, has been sentenced to life in prison.
Police welcomed the sentence handed down to Meshack Ncube on charges related to murder and contravention of the immigration act.
Ncube was arrested on December 23, 2020, according to police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane.
“Officers Seargent Calvin Mapadimeng and Constable Albert Mahlase were going about their regular patrol at around 08:40 on that day when they received a call-out about a woman who was killed by a man at the informal settlement,” said Mashilaone.
The officers rushed to the scene where they found the woman in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
“The suspect tried to run away but he was arrested,” said Mashiloane.
The case was handed to Detective Constable Onismas Masha, who then attended the crime scene and collected the necessary evidence.
“Through good investigation by Detective Constable Masha, the accused was found guilty.”
Ncube was charged with murder and contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.
He was sentenced to life on the murder charge and 15 months’ imprisonment on the second charge; the second sentence which will run concurrently with the first.
