TMPD secure more arrests off tip-offs

“Gratitude also goes to the community members who work together with the police by reporting criminal activities.”

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) tactical unit has secured more arrests this week after a tip-off was received about three men in possession of suspected stolen goods in Lotus Gardens.

“They were searched and found in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Upon interrogation, the three suspects led the officers to the premises where they kept suspected stolen goods,” police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.

He applauded the TMPD officers for their hard work and dedication.

“Gratitude also goes to the community members who work together with the police by reporting criminal activities.”

The arrest came at the back of operations conducted last week Friday, which also led to arrests for unlicensed firearms, drugs and possession, stolen livestock and drug dealing.

Mahamba said the daily normal duties yielded great results for the department.

Mahamba said last week, several successes were recorded, when the TMPD tactical unit members received a tip-off about a person selling drugs from his home in Soshanguve.

“The members planned a joint operation and went to the premises where they found a male suspect. Upon searching the premises, they found drugs (CAT) in zip locks and blocks.”

He said they also found an unlicensed firearm.

“The firearm tested positive relating to another case in Rietgat. The 27-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

He said on the same day, other members of the same unit recovered livestock on the R80 Mabopane highway.

The livestock was reported stolen at Rooiwal.

“The TMPD drug unit and three sector 2 regional officers arrested one male for dealing in drugs in the Sunnyside area. He was found in possession of drugs such as CAT and crystal meth.”

Mahamba said the tactical unit also recovered a truck that was reported to have been hijacked in Sinoville.

“They found the truck abandoned at N1 southbound between R21 interchange and Botha Avenue.”

Among these successes, several fines were issued during road operations to motorists who violated traffic rules.
