Summer grain planting season launch in Bronkhortspruit

"The department has supplied maize farmers with seeds, fertilizers and chemicals in preparation of the planting season."

Tshwane metro’s environment and agricultural department launched the start of the 2021 summer grain planting season for Tshwane and Gauteng recently.

This will mark the beginning of the planting season for grain farmers.

Environment and agriculture management MMC Dana Wannenburg said the provincial government and the metro were committed to sustainable food security.

“No citizen should go to bed hungry,” he said.

“The provision of agricultural support to maize farmers ignite the economic development initiatives that target grain food production through subsidising input supplies, mechanisation, marketing and agro-processing using a conditional grant programme.

“Therefore, the department has supplied maize farmers with seeds, fertilisers and chemicals in preparation for the planting season,” he said.

Wannenburg added that civilization began with agriculture and although humanity has changed significantly, agriculture remained very important.

“In certain countries, the significance is more obvious, but the reality is that every country in the world depends on agriculture,” he said.
