Trio arrested for farm attack, house robbery

The suspects ransacked the house and took fridges, couches, laptops and a cash amount of R1 700.

Three men were arrested for house robbery and theft of a motor vehicle following a farm attack on Thursday in Bronkhorstspruit.

Police spokesperson Constable Munyadziwa Ramovha said six to eight men gained entry at a plot in Leeufontein around 00:30.

“The suspects found a 84-year-old woman sleeping and woke her up. They dragged the elderly victim from her bed and burnt her hands and feet with their blowtorch,” Ramovha said.

She said the suspects then left the elderly woman locked in a bathroom before tying up the domestic worker at the back of the house.

The suspects ransacked the house and took fridges, couches, laptops and a cash amount of R1 700.

Ramovha said the robbers fled the scene with the victim’s Ford Ranger bakkie.

Stolen items recovered.

Bronkhorstspruit police were contacted between 04:30 and 05:00 and all relevant stakeholders were summoned to the scene.

The victim was taken to Bronkhorstspruit hospital for medical assistance, said Ramovha.

“The intelligence team, Bronkhorstspruit Detective, K9 and Tshwane District Trio task team went to out to trace the suspects. At around 09:35 they managed to arrest three suspects.”

The following properties were recovered: couches, two fridges, a dining table, three laptops, three cellphones, a plasma flatscreen, a microwave, and a washing machine.

A Ford Ranger was recovered in Ekangala policing precinct where it was abandoned, Ramovha said.

The Bronkhorstspruit station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Kabini applauded the members for their speedy response in tracing the suspects.
