Mob kills man for allegedly beating his girlfriend

"The deceased was taken by an ambulance to Jubilee Hospital where he told the hospital staff that he fell victim to the mob after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend."

Temba police are investigating a case of murder after a man was beaten to death in a mob justice incident.

The victim, who sustained various injuries and died as he was being treated by hospital staff, was accused by an angry mob of assaulting his girlfriend.

Tshwane North Corridor spokesperson Captain Stephen Malululeka said the incident happened in Moeka Vuma Village outside Temba on Saturday morning.

Maluleka said, according to the information received by the police, the 38-year-old victim was found naked and beaten on the day.

“After suffering a beating that led to bleeding from his head and several bruises on his body, the deceased was taken by an ambulance to Jubilee hospital.

“There he reportedly told the hospital staff that he fell victim to mob justice after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend.”

Maluleka said the man died shortly after sharing his ordeal on how he was attacked with the staff.

Last week, the naked body of a 31-year-old man was found near a house in block PP2 squatter camp in Soshanguve what police also suspect to be a mob justice incident.

Maluleka said the body was found around 06:00. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased suffered multiple injuries before he died.

He said the body was discovered by a passerby who informed the police.

“While the cause of death is unknown at this stage, mob justice could not be ruled out.”

Maluleka said the body has been identified by the next of kin.

He said a murder case was being investigated by the Rietgat police following the incident.

He said the police would like to further discourage the public to stop taking the law into their hands, but instead to report the crime immediately.

Police urged anyone with information or who might assist in arresting the suspects in the Moeka Vuma Village case to contact Temba police on 012 717 9000 or the Crime Stop line 08600 10111 or anonymously on the MySAPS app downloadable on the Google Play store.
