West man arrested over firearm, possession of drugs

A tip-off from the public led to the arrest of a Lotus Gardens man at the weekend, on charges of possession of a firearm and drugs.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi said officers of the Tshwane SAPS flying squad arrested the man after officers followed up on a tip-off they had received from a member of the public on Sunday afternoon.
“When the officers arrived, they were welcomed by the owner of the house, who also gave permission for them to conduct a search for drugs. While conducting the search, the police officers recovered a silver Magnum revolver with a filed off serial number, loaded with six rounds of ammunition which was covered with clothes,” he said.
“Two rounds of ammunition were also found inside a drawer,” Legodi said.
In the drawer, he said, a transparent plastic containing the drug CAT was also found.

“Along with the rounds of ammunition and drugs, police also found money which amounted to R1 746,” Legodi said.
The man was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition along with possession of and dealing in drugs.
Meanwhile, at least 600 people were arrested in the police’s safer festive season operations in the Tshwane district at the weekend.
