O Kae Molao operations net dozens in Gauteng

Earlier in the week, two people were arrested during an intelligence driven operation in the Tshwane district.

Dozens of people were arrested in recent O Kae Molao operations conducted by the police and other law enforcement agencies in the province on Friday.

“During the operation, 67 suspects were arrested for various crimes, including possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen vehicle, possession of dealing in illicit goods, drunken driving and dealing in liquor without licence,” police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said.

“Among the arrested, there was also 11 undocumented persons and 33 wanted suspects for various crimes such as murder, armed robbery, theft and assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm.”

Sello said that the operations included tracing of suspects and compliance inspections along with stop-and-searches.

In the Johannesburg CBD, she said counterfeit goods valued at approximately R7,4-million were seized by a team consisting of provincial crime intelligence, public order policing, customs and private security.

“Three suspects were arrested,” she said.

Another suspect was arrested for possession and dealing with illicit cigarettes by a team consisting of provincial commercial crime, crime intelligence, customs and private security.

“The members seized illicit cigarettes to the value of about R100 000,” Sello said.

Earlier in the week, two people were arrested during an intelligence-driven operation in the Tshwane district.

In a statement, police said unlicensed firearms, ammunition, a suspected stolen vehicle, suspected stolen property and liquor valued at an estimated R3 000 were recovered.
