A 29-year-old man was arrested for hijacking a delivery truck and being in possession of an unlicenced firearm just after 14:30 on John Sydney Drive in Eersterust recently.

The suspect and his three other accomplices hijacked a truck and trailer that was en-route to deliver mattresses in Eersterust.

According to Eersterust police spokesperson, Sergeant Sam Shibambo, the suspects allegedly threatened the driver and his crew with firearms before driving off with the truck and the beds.

“Shortly after the hijacking, the victim saw a police patrol vehicle and he flagged them down. He informed them of his traumatic ordeal and they took him to the police station to open a case.

“On the way to the station the victim spotted his hijacked truck driving in Allie Avenue.

“He informed the police and they immediately gave chase and called for back-up,” said Shibambo.

The suspects abandoned the truck and fled on foot.
