Over 300 arrested during rainy weekend

Heavy rains over the weekend did not deter Tshwane central police from doing their jobs.

Heavy rains over the weekend did not deter Tshwane central police from doing their jobs as they arrested a total of 365 people.

Tshwane district police conducted the O Kae Molao and high-density operations that were focused in Silverton, Kameeldrift, Eersterus, Garsfontein and other areas, said Mamelodi police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.

“About 194 suspects were arrested during the high-density operation and 38 of them were gender-based violence related.

“During the O Kae Molao operation, 37 undocumented persons were arrested, eight suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes and three others for selling liquor without a licence,” he said.

Maheso said police were committed to keeping the community safe this festive.

“The success is sending a message that the police will be there during this festive season.”

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said more than 1 070 people were arrested in Gauteng.

“Suspects in Tshwane faced charges which included murder, theft, robbery, rape and other serious and violent crimes,” he said.

“Among the 1 070 arrested were two wanted suspects for robberies committed in the West Rand.

“They were arrested in Snake Park, Soweto,” Makhubele said.

One of them was arrested for being in possession of a blue light, police uniform and an unlicenced firearm.

“During the arrest, a dangerous suspect led the team to Randfontein where a shotgun that was used during business robberies was recovered,” Makhubele said.
