Cops pledge to keep community safe

“Rest assured that we will continue to serve and protect our citizens in the festive season."

Sinoville police promised to keep residents safe during this festive season.

“We have pledged to always keep our community safe and to reduce crime in our policing precinct,” spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said.

He added that they would also be conducting regular operations in the area.

“Rest assured that we will continue to serve and protect our citizens in the festive season by conducting frequent crime operations to ensure your safety,” he said.

Van Dyk added that their partnerships with organisations such as the Sinoville Crisis Centre and the CPF helped ensure the well-being of the community.

“For this commitment and voluntary support of all the members, we as the SAPS would like to thank them for their service and support,” he said.

He further said they wished residents a blessed and peaceful festive season.

“May you be blessed by the grace of God,” Van Dyk said.

Ward 50 councillor Lenise Breytenbach encouraged residents to continue supporting each other and thanked them for their support over the past year.

“Let us unite like never before and keep on supporting and believing in each other,” she said, adding that they all needed one another to succeed as a community.

Breytenbach added that while losing loved ones, job losses, limitations on movement and even struggling to make ends meet had been some of the low lights faced by many, the community was still able to unite.

“Despite it being a tough year due to Covid, our community stood together and supported each other through food parcel projects that were initiated by the community. We still found ways to manage to create ways of making money to survive,” she said.

Another ward councillor, Yolanda Duvenage, said the year was one filled with sorrow, fear, frustration, anger and corruption.

“2021 had its challenges, but it also had some incredible highlights – I look back at this year and I am still amazed at how the DA managed to replace most of the missing R4,2-billion, won the court case and had an election with an awesome seven-week campaign,” she said.

Duvenage added that while she did anticipate challenges in the upcoming five years, she was positive their achievements would outweigh them.
